⌘R is Fetch Messages, not Reply. See Keyboard shortcuts.
Who receives a reply
Section titled “Who receives a reply”Full compose Reply puts the original From address in To. A Reply-To header may appear in the reader. It is not used as the reply target. Edit To if you need the Reply-To address.
Reply all (full compose) puts From plus the original To addresses in To, and original Cc in Cc, minus your own addresses on that account.
Inline Reply all is different: it puts From plus Cc in To and leaves Cc empty. Use full compose for list threads.
There is no List-Post banner and no Reply to author only toggle.
Full compose reply and forward insert a sanitized quote of the original below the caret (top-post). Remote images in that quote stay blocked until image permission for that source is granted. Showing remote images in the reader is not permission to forward them as loaded content.
Inline reply is plain text. It does not insert that quote.
Forward
Section titled “Forward”Forward starts with an empty To, a Fwd: subject, and a
forward header. The original files go out with the forward.
They are not the removable chips in compose. Removing a
chip you added yourself does not omit those originals.
To send without the original files, start a new message and attach only the files you choose.
Forward is a new conversation. It does not set In-Reply-To.
Which account sends
Section titled “Which account sends”The sending mailbox is the one that owns the message. If that account has aliases, Send as lists them. Changing Send as does not change the mailbox login. Changing Account or From can. See Advanced IMAP / SMTP settings.
Settings → Composer can mark the thread Done after a full-compose reply or forward. Inline send does not.
See Compose an email.
